Imaging is at the heart of nearly every diagnostic investigation for patients here at Canada West. Whether your pet has abdominal pain that requires a detailed assessment of internal organs, a complicated bone fracture that warrants precise evaluation of the injuries to plan surgery, or is having a seizure disorder that necessitates a close look at the brain, diagnostic imaging is in order.
Radiologists are experts in interpretation of all imaging modalities, from diagnostic radiology (X-rays), to ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT or CAT scans), magnetic resonance (MRI), and nuclear medicine. We are pleased to have on-site radiologists boarded by the American College of Veterinary Radiology that provide this unique and integral specialty within our hospital. Our radiologists work closely with the doctors on staff to provide expertise in evaluating images of your pet, including those we acquire on-site throughout hospitalization as well as those obtained by your family veterinarian prior to your arrival.
The Diagnostic Imaging service provides real-time specialty interpretation of in-house digital radiographs, as well as CT and MRI studies. In addition, all ultrasonography, fluoroscopy, contrast studies, and interventional procedures (such as biopsies) are performed by the radiologist. Images are interpreted using state-of-the-art medical grade viewing monitors and promptly conveyed to the patient’s primary doctor to maximize the quality of care your pet receives. Veterinary assistants dedicated to the service work full-time to not only facilitate image acquisition, but also to comfort and care for patients that are undergoing imaging procedures.
