Overview

Family veterinarians have surgical training, so they are well-qualified for routine procedures. Board-certified veterinary surgeons however, have dedicated their careers to training for advanced surgical techniques. They have access to more specialized equipment and monitoring tools than is normally available in most veterinary clinics.

Your family veterinarian may opt for referral to a board-certified surgeon for advanced procedures or complicated conditions requiring specialized equipment and care.
